Srinagar: The Higher reaches of Kashmir received light snowfall on Saturday amid the prediction of more light rain and snow during the next 24 hours, officials said.

Light snowfall was recorded at the hill resorts of Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg along with other higher reaches.

The snowfall caused the temporary closure of the strategic Srinagar-Leh National Highway and Bandipora Gurez road.

Traffic officials said the traffic along Sonamarg-Kargil (SSG) road is closed for vehicular movement due to fresh snowfall on Zojila axis.

The vehicular movement was also suspended on Gurez Bandipora road due to the snowfall at Razdan pass.

The Meteorological Department has predicted wet weather in Kashmir till Tuesday.

The weather is expected to be partly cloudy, with light rain or snow likely at isolated locations in the higher reaches on Sunday.

For the next two days, light rain or snow is anticipated at scattered places in the higher reaches.

The weather is likely to remain dry between December 4-7.

Meanwhile, the night temperatures across Kashmir witnessed a rise due to overcast skies.

The Meteorological Department said that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 1 degrees Celsius, up from the previous night’s minus 1 degrees Celsius.

MeT said that Qazigund, Pahalgam, Konibal, Pulwama and Shopian weather stations were the only places in Kashmir region where the minimum temperature settled below the freezing point.
