Srinagar: Ahead of formal start of winters, most of the parts in Kashmir valley have come under severe chill with night temperatures hitting freezing notes.
As per details available with news agency JKNS, Shopian was the coldest in Kashmir valley with -5.5°C temperatures, followed by Pahalgam with -5.3°C.
The temperatures in Srinagar settled at -2.1°C, in Qazigund at -2.7°C, in Kupwara at -2.5°C, Kokernag at -1.4°C, in Gulmarg at -3.6°C, in Sonamarg at -4.9°C, in Zojila at -18.0°C, in Anantnag at -5.0°C, in Ganderbal at -2.4°C, in Pulwama at -5.0°C, in Bandipora at -3.7°C, in Baramulla at -2.0°C, in Budgam at -4.1°C, in Kulgam at -3.3°C, and in Larnoo at -5.2°C.
The temperatures in Jammu also witnessed a dip, as main Jammu witnessed 8.6°C, Banihal 1.2°C, Batote 3.5°C, Katra 8.5°C, Bhaderwah 1.0°C, Kishtwar 4.1°C, Padder -4.3°C, Kathua 8.7°C, Ramban 7.3°C, Samba 4.7°C, Udhampur 4.2°C, Poonch and 5.2°C and Rajouri 4.0°C.
It is worth to mention here that the 40-day chill period, known in common parlance as ‘Chillai-e-Kalaan’ will start from December 20, marking the formal start of winters in Valley. (JKNS)
