Sub-zero temperatures grip Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh as Winter intensifies

Srinagar: The city of Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season at -5.4°C, as temperatures dipped sharply across Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh.

The freezing conditions have brought severe cold waves, with many areas in the valley witnessing frost-covered mornings.

As per the details shared by the Kashmir Weather, which is accessed by the news agency JKNS, in Kashmir, Sonamarg registered the lowest temperature at -9.7°C, followed by Shopian at -8.5°C and Pahalgam at -8.4°C. Other parts of the valley also saw significant drops, with Pulwama at -8.3°C, Anantnag at -7.9°C, and Budgam at -6.4°C.

It reads as, in the Jammu region, Banihal recorded -2.2°C, while Jammu city remained relatively warmer at 5.4°C. Notably, Padder in Kishtwar saw a low of -7.7°C, and Samba registered near-freezing temperatures at 0.3°C.

Also, in Ladakh remained the coldest region, with Leh recording -13.2°C and Kargil at -12.4°C, signaling an extreme winter chill.

Similarly, the ongoing dry weather has intensified the cold, with the Meteorological Department forecasting continued sub-zero nights in the coming days. Meanwhile, residents are advised to take precautions to avoid cold-related ailments as the region braces for harsher winter conditions.—(JKNS)
