Jaito: About 12 trains were cancelled and 38 others affected as farmers held “Rail Roko” protest across Punjab on Wednesday.
An official of Ferozepur Division of Northern Railway (NR) said that from 1200 hours to 1500 hours farmers protested at 52 places in the jurisdiction of the Division. Due to the protests, 12 trains were cancelled, two were short-terminated, two trains were short-originated and 34 trains were running late.
The official added that to ensure minimum inconvenience to passengers, trains were halted at places where they could get Tea, Water and Snacks. Besides, passengers were provided with regular updates regarding the status of trains. Help desks were arranged at the station and announcements were made on the Public Address System regularly.
He said that after the protests were over, the train services have resumed following safety and security protocol.
