Srinagar: Owais Ahmad, CEO of Srinagar Smart City, on Thursday said more than 1,000 cameras have been deployed throughout the city as part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), aimed at reducing traffic violations.
Sharing details with media, Owais Ahmad CEO of Srinagar Smart City as per the news agency JKNS said the newly installed cameras are programmed to capture a wide range of traffic infringements, such as the failure to wear seatbelts or helmets, the use of mobile phones while driving, and running red lights.
He said the speed monitoring will be integrated into the system soon. “On the first day of implementation, around 102 traffic fines were issued. As soon as a vehicle’s number plate is captured, an automatic challan is generated, and the driver is prompted to pay the fine,” he said.
Pertainly, the ITMS is currently operational at 33 out of 66 junctions in Srinagar, with the remaining ones facing technical issues. “We are working diligently to resolve these glitches, and expect full operational functionality shortly,” the CEO noted.
It is worth mentioning, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the ITMS employs high-resolution cameras and radar sensors to monitor key intersections and roads. By processing real-time data with sophisticated algorithms, the system swiftly identifies traffic violations and patterns, contributing to improved traffic management in the city.—(JKNS)
