United Nations: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is saddened by the news of the plane crash in Kazakhstan and extends his condolences to the families of the victims, Guterres’ associate spokeswoman Stephanie Tremblay said.
“The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the news of a plane crash in western Kazakhstan, which has claimed the lives of many, including citizens of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Russian Federation. He extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expresses his profound sympathy to the affected nations. The Secretary-General also wishes a swift and full recovery to those injured in this tragic incident,” Tremblay said in a statement on Wednesday.
An Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku to Russia’s Grozny crashed on the morning of December 25 near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. According to Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsiya), after the plane collided with birds, the captain of the plane decided to divert to to an alternate airfield in Aktau after the aircraft collided with birds. The airline said 62 passengers and five crew members were on board. Kazakhstan’s health ministry said 28 people survived in the crash.
