Kupwara: Residents of Bumhama and its adjoining villages in the northern district of Kupwara are facing severe hardships due to the lack of clean drinking water. Even in freezing cold weather, men and women are compelled to spend their days searching for water in streams and rivers. Meanwhile, the Jal Shakti Department, Kupwara Division, remains a silent spectator to the distress of the people.
Speaking to the reporter, residents of Bumhama shared their plight, stating that the water supply for a population of thousands relies solely on two tankers. These tankers are insufficient to meet the daily water needs of the community, forcing people to stand in long queues daily to collect clean drinking water. When the tankers run out of water, residents are left with no option but to search for water in nearby streams and rivers to meet their cooking and drinking needs.
The locals further mentioned that, despite Bumhama being located just a few furlongs from the district headquarters, the situation remains dire.
