New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an extra subsidy of Rs 3,850 crore for DAP fertilizer to ensure farmers continue to get DAP at Rs 1,350 per bag of 50 kg.

Briefing media on Cabinet decisions, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Modi government has ensured that DAP fertilizer is available at affordable price despite the global market price of the fertilizer being volatile due to geo-political tensions.

“Since 2024, PM Modiji has ensured that farmers do not have to bear the brunt of market fluctuations caused by Covid and war related disruptions,” Vaishnaw said.

He stated that fertilizer subsidy from 2014-24 was Rs 11.9 lakh crore which is more than double the subsidy given from 2004-14 (Rs 5.5 lakh crore).

Vaishnaw said that ever since the Modi 3.0 government came to power in June 2024 a series of decisions have been taken by the Cabinet for farmer welfare.

“If we see the decisions taken by the Modi government in its third term, they are worth nearly Rs 6 lakh crore,” the Minister said.
