Bandipora: Gurez Valley in Bandipora district received heavy snowfall on Thursday, leading to widespread disruptions and the closure of the Gurez-Bandipora road to all traffic. Officials reported that the region witnessed approximately six inches of fresh snow, with ongoing snowfall expected to add to the accumulation.
The heavy snowfall significantly affected several areas, including Dawar, Kanzalwan, Kilshay, and Tulail, leaving the valley blanketed in a thick layer of snow. Strong winds accompanying the snowfall made travel on the Gurez-Bandipora road extremely dangerous, prompting authorities to suspend all vehicular movement.
“Snowfall, coupled with strong winds, has made travel on the roads exceedingly perilous, and the area is currently experiencing heavy snowfall,” an official stated.
Efforts to restore connectivity are underway, with snow clearance machinery deployed to clear internal roads within the valley. However, progress remains slow due to the challenging weather conditions.
The fresh snowfall has severely disrupted normal life, leaving residents to endure the harsh winter conditions. Authorities have advised people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation improves.
