BJP releases first list of 29 candidates for upcoming assembly polls in Delhi

New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday released the first list of 29 candidates for the Delhi Assembly election.

As per the list released by the BJP, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is pitted against Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi constituency and Ramesh Bidhuri will be contesting against Delhi CM Atishi from Kalkaji.

The list includes Vijender Gupta contesting from Rohini constituency, Ashish Sood from Janakpuri.

Four former Delhi Ministers of AAP and Congress Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand, Arvinder Singh Lovely and Rajkumar Chauhan, who held key portfolios in Sheila Dikshit’s government from 2003 to 2013, have also been given tickets.

This time Gahlot is contesting from Bijwasan, while Anand will contest from the reserved constituency of Patel Nagar. Lovely Singh will be contesting from Gandhi Nagar, while Chauhan was fielded from the reserved Mangolpuri constituency.

Former Congress MLA Tarwinder Singh Marwah, will contest from Jangpura against former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Sitting BJP MLAs, including the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta, veteran Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Mahawar, and Jitender Mahajan, will re-contest from Rohini, Vishwas Nagar, Ghonda, and Rohtas Nagar, respectively.

The BJP has fielded Raj Kumar Bhatia in Adarsh Nagar, Deepak Chaudhary in Badli, Kulwant Rana in Rithala, Manoj Shokeen in Nangloi Jat, Rajkumar Chauhan in Mangolpuri and Vijendra Gupta in Rohini.

The party has named Rekha Gupta in Shalimar Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa in Rajouri Garden, Tarvinder Singh Marwah in Jangpura, Anil Sharma in RK Puram, Gajendra Yadav in Mehrauli, Kartar Singh Tanwar in Chhatarpur.

The BJP also fielded Kushiram Chunar in Ambedkar Nagar, Ravindra Singh Negi in Patparganj, Om Prakash Sharma in Vishwas Nagar, Anil Goyal in Krishna Nagar, Kumari Rinku in Seemapuri, Jitendra Mahajan in Rohtas Nagar and Ajay Mahawar in Ghonda.

The election to the 70-member Delhi Assembly was expected to be held in mid-February.

The Election Commission of India is yet to announce the schedule for the Assembly polls.
