Sonamarg gains year-round connectivity; travel time reduced to 25 minutes
Ganderbal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Z-Morh Tunnel in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, marking a significant milestone in boosting connectivity and tourism in the region.
According to the news agency JKNS, the 6.4 km-long tunnel will drastically reduce travel time between Gagangeer and Sonamarg to just 20-25 minutes. It provides all-weather connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted travel to Sonamarg throughout the year and improving access to the under-construction Zojila tunnel.
The opening of the Z-Morh Tunnel is expected to boost both domestic and international tourism in Sonamarg, further contributing to the socio-economic development of Kashmir including Sonamarg.
It is worth mentioning that the inauguration was attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta, MP Lok Sabha Srinagar Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, MP Rajya Sabha Ghulam Ali Khatana, and other dignitaries and officials.
