New Delhi: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved minimum support price (MSP) of raw jute for marketing season 2025-26 at Rs 5,650 per quintal, an increase of Rs 315 per quintal over previous marketing season.

The hike in raw jute MSP ensures return of 66.8% over all India weighted average cost of production.

“The government has increased the MSP of raw jute from Rs 2,400 per quintal in 2014-15 to Rs 5,650 per quintal in 2025-26, registering a 2.35 times increase,” a government statement said.

Briefing media on Cabinet decisions, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Union Cabinet also approved continuation of the government’s flagship National health Mission (NHM) for another five years.

Goyal noted that the NHM had met historic targets over the years.

The NHM was launched in 2005 with the objective of building public health systems to provide accessible, affordable and quality health care to the rural population, especially the vulnerable groups, up to the District Hospitals (DH) level.

The implementation strategy of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under NHM is to provide financial and technical support to States/Union Territories (UTs) enabling them to provide accessible, affordable, accountable, and effective healthcare upto District Hospitals (DHs), especially to the poor and vulnerable sections of the population.

As per official release, the NHM has engaged over 12 lakh additional healthcare workers between FY 2021-24. Also, 220 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered nationwide under the mission.
