Srinagar: Class 8 student Mohammad Qais, a resident of Srinagar, had the privilege of meeting World No. 1 doubles tennis player Rohan Bopanna, who offered him an opportunity to train at his academy.
Expressing his happiness, Mohammad Qais, while speaking to the news agency JKNS, said, “It was my pleasure to meet Rohan Bopanna. He assured me and my father that he will provide every possible help to train me.”
“Rohan Sir assured me of every possible help and training and also offered me the opportunity to join his academy,” he added.
Qais’s father told the news agency JKNS that Bopanna had visited the region to support underprivileged children aged 8 to 10. “I came to know about his visit, and through the J&K Sports Council, my son got the privilege to meet him,” he said.
“Bopanna assured me that he will help my son and offered him a chance to train at his academy outside India, where he will also be provided with education,” he added.
Rohan Machanda Bopanna is a professional tennis player from India who specializes in doubles. He reached the world No. 1 ranking after securing his first Grand Slam doubles title at the 2024 Australian Open alongside Matthew Ebden, making history as the oldest player to achieve the top ranking for the first time at 43.
