Srinagar: A massive fire damaged approximately 50 shops in Sonamarg’s main market on Saturday evening.
An official from the Fire and Emergency Services told news agency JKNS that 25 shops on the upper floor were severely damaged, while 25 on the lower floor suffered partial damage.
The official added that as soon as they received the call, firefighting teams were rushed from Gund, Kangan, Ganderbal, and Nowshera, Srinagar.
“We tried our best to control the blaze, we managed to control it now” the official said.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating that his office is in constant touch with the local administration to ensure all possible assistance reaches those affected.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation has been initiated. (JKNS)
