Kupwara:: Empowerment of women is a process that enables them to claim their rights, access equal opportunities in economic, cultural, social, and political spheres, and realize their full potential. This progress must go hand in hand with their freedom to work and influence the direction of social change. True empowerment is a bottom-up process rather than a top-down strategy.

Aligned with this ideology, the Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers has been consistently working toward an empowerment-based approach, enabling the women of Kupwara to assess their situation and drive social transformation.

On Feb 24, 2025, 20 women from the villages of Kunan Poshpora, who stitched and embroidered more than 11,000 National Flags for Republic Day and Independence Day over the past two years, were felicitated by the Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers at BHS Kunan. In addition to these skilled women, girls from the Kupwara Women’s Football Team and Wushu Academy Kupwara were also honored.

The Commanding Officer of Kupwara Terriers graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by other officers, villagers, children, and about 120 women from Kunan Poshpora. He highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment in the modern era, emphasizing that women are not only equal to men but, in many ways, even more significant. He assured the women present of the Indian Army’s continued support in their endeavors.

The villagers and women expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army for its invaluable support and hoped for similar initiatives in the future.

The ultimate goal of women’s empowerment is for women themselves to become active agents of change, transforming societal perceptions. The Indian Army remains at the forefront of such initiatives, working to uplift women from weaker and less privileged sections of society, particularly in remote areas like Kupwara.(JKNS)
