New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu today said that the presence of women in a peacekeeping mission makes it more diverse and inclusive.

Addressing a group of participants from the Conference for Women Peacekeepers of the Global South who called on her at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu also recalled India’s proud history of contribution to UN peacekeeping.

The women peacekeepers are in New Delhi to participate in a Conference on the theme “Women in Peacekeeping: A Global South Perspective”.

The first-ever Conference for Women Peacekeepers, being held in New Delhi on February 24-25, is being attended by women peacekeepers from 35 Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) from the Global South.

The conference is organised by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK).

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar delivered the key note address.

In his address, the EAM reiterated: “Guided by Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam- the world is one family- India reaffirms its dedication to global peace and gender diversity in UN peacekeeping.”
