Srinagar: In view of the weather forecast predicting moderate to heavy snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Srinagar, who is also the CEO of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), has ordered all concerned departments to remain on high alert and take immediate precautionary measures.

As per an order issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads that, all concerned Revenue, Public Works (R&B), Irrigation & Flood Control, MH&ED, SMC, KPDCL, Jal Shakti, and Health & Medical Education departments shall ensure all necessary logistical arrangements for snow clearance and related works.

The field staff of these departments must stay stationed at their respective headquarters to provide immediate assistance, order reads.

The order also warns of potential disruptions to surface and air transportation, particularly on major routes like the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, Sadhna Pass, Razdhan Pass, Sonmarg-Zojila Axis, Sinthan Top, and Mughal Road. Travelers and transporters have been advised to plan accordingly.

Farmers have been instructed to suspend irrigation and other agricultural activities, while residents in vulnerable areas have been cautioned about possible landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides. A significant drop in day temperatures is also expected.

The District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) Srinagar will remain operational 24×7 to address public grievances, SOS calls, and emergency situations. Citizens can contact the DEOC and other key departments via the emergency helpline numbers provided in the order. (JKNS)
