Srinagar:Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said that the upgradation of health Institutions depend upon population, infrastructure, distance from nearby hospitals.

Replying to a question of Chander Prakash Ganga, Health Minister Sakina Itoo as per news agency JKNS the upgradation of health institutions mainly depend upon multiple parameters viz; population, infrastructure, distance from nearby Health institutions, work load and fulfillment of conditionality of IPHS norms-2022 and circular instructions of the Government issued from time to time.

“However, at the moment, the austerity issued by the finance department is in force, therefore J&K is working on consolidation of existing health facilities as around 4000 health institutes at various levels (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary) exists.” She said.

“J&K is among the top runners amongst large States/UTs in health institution density in the country. The calculations are worked as per the Report published in 2023 by MoHFW, Gol indicating that J&K has a health institution on every 3500 souls against an average 6000 souls at national Level.” She said.

“The creation may be worked out once the austerity measures in terms of Government Order No. 17-F of 2024 dated 15.01.2024 imposed by the Finance Department are withdrawn and critical gaps as per IPHS, if any, are assessed.” She said.—(JKNS)
