Jammu: In a significant step towards promoting adventure sports and fostering the mental and physical well-being of the Jammu youth, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K, flagged off a district-level trekking camp for students on Tuesday. The camp, organized at the picturesque destination of Patnitop would provide a learning experience to the young trekkers. Ved Prakash, Joint Director Jammu of YSS, amidst great enthusiasm and excitement, flagged-off a contingent of 120 boys from the Dussehra Ground, Gandhinagar, Jammu. The five-day trekking camp aims to provide students with an opportunity to connect with nature, build resilience, and develop teamwork skills. The participants were accompanied by experienced officials from the Department of YSS to ensure their safety and guidance throughout the adventure.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, JD YSS emphasized the importance of such initiatives in shaping the holistic development of youth. He stated, ‘’Adventure activities like trekking not only strengthen physical fitness but also instill a sense of discipline, leadership, and camaraderie among students. We are committed to providing such platforms to the youth of the UT to explore their potential and embrace challenges.”
The trekking camp has been organized under the guidance and patronage of Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, J&K. The Department has made meticulous arrangements to ensure the success of the camp, including logistical support, safety measures, and experienced escorts.
Sukhdev Raj Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO), Jammu, along with Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) and other Departmental officials, were present during the flag-off ceremony to wish the participants a safe and memorable journey.
In addition to the boys’ trekking camp, the Department is also preparing for a similar initiative for girls. The girls’ contingent of the trekking camp is expected to depart on Wednesday for a separate destination, accompanied by experienced officials.
