Karnah, Kupwara | April 10, 2025:

In a significant move to promote environmental consciousness and community hygiene, the Rural Development Department (RDD) organized an awareness rally on Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Karnah, Kupwara. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, local residents, and government officials, aiming to sensitize the public about the importance of scientific waste disposal and clean surroundings.

The rally was flagged off in Tangdar and marched through various localities, raising slogans and displaying placards to spread the message of cleanliness and responsible waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-G).

Present at the occasion were Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Karnah, Tehsildar Karnah, Block Development Officer (BDO) Tangdar, and Dr. Mudasir, CEO and Brand Ambassador of SBM-G (Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin). Their presence underscored the administration’s commitment to creating awareness and building a sustainable waste management system in rural areas.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mudasir emphasized the role of youth and community members in maintaining sanitation and reducing the harmful effects of unscientific waste dumping. He urged citizens to adopt practices such as segregation of waste at source, composting of biodegradable waste, and recycling to reduce environmental damage.

SDM Karnah, while appreciating the initiative, highlighted the necessity of behavioral change and community involvement in achieving long-term success in solid waste management. He also called for continued efforts and regular awareness drives to instill cleanliness as a daily habit.

The rally was followed by brief speeches and interactive sessions, where local officials responded to queries from the public and educated them about the facilities and support available under SBM-G for effective waste disposal and sanitation infrastructure.

This initiative marks a step forward in aligning Karnah with national cleanliness goals and ensuring a healthier, cleaner environment for future generations.
