Srinagar: Fire & Emergency Services J&K on Monday observed National Fire Service Day at its headquarters in Batamaloo, Srinagar, to honour the martyrs who lost their lives while responding to emergencies across the Union Territory.

As per news agency JKNS, a two-minute silence was observed and wreaths were laid at the Martyrs’ Column to pay tribute to the brave firefighters.

The ceremony was presided over by Er. Aqib Hussain Mir, Command Officer, Fire & Emergency Services Srinagar. Aqib urged the personnel to remain committed to their duty and the department’s motto. “We Serve to Save.”

“Firefighters must always be ready to protect life and property, even at the cost of their own,” he said during his address to the officers and jawans, he told officers.

Similar functions were held at all district headquarters and fire stations across Jammu and Kashmir. The observance also marked the beginning of Fire Service Week, which will be commemorated from April 14 to April 20 with awareness campaigns and drills. This year’s theme is “Unite to Ignite, a Fire Safe India.” (JKNS)
