Srinagar: Member Legislative Assembly Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday said that the National Conference will challenge the Waqf Bill in the Supreme Court, asserting that the party had opposed it in the Assembly and would continue to resist it legally and politically.

Speaking to media persons Tanvir as per news agency JKNS said, “It is on record that our Assembly did not function properly because we demanded a debate on the Waqf Bill. The sense of the House was recorded and sent to Delhi. We opposed the Waqf Bill with all our strength. Now, we will take this fight to the Supreme Court.”

He said, “The Supreme Court must realise that in this secular country, just like other religious communities have full rights to protect their religious properties, Muslims should be given the same right. This decision must be reversed.”

Hitting out at BJP, Sadiq said, “The BJP lost in the Assembly. They neither spoke about the Waqf Bill nor about the Jal Shakti scam. They had no answers and no stand.”

Targeting PDP, Tanvir said, “If PDP had not formed an alliance with BJP in 2014, this day wouldn’t have come for Jammu and Kashmir. Statehood would not have been snatched, Article 370 would not have been removed, and our Waqf Board our Auqaf would still may have been in our control.” (JKNS)
