Anantnag: In a landmark development, Anantnag Police has achieved the first-ever conviction under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), setting a precedent in India’s reformed criminal justice system.
The case was registered under FIR No. 69/2025 at Police Station Anantnag under Sections 303(2) and 238 of the BNS. It was based on a written complaint filed by Ab. Rasheed Alie, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Hawora Munshi Pora. He reported the theft of his load carrier auto (registration number JK18B-3925) from Mehandi Kadal, Anantnag, on April 1, 2025.
Responding promptly, Anantnag Police launched a swift and efficient investigation, resulting in the arrest of two accused persons: Faizan Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, and Muneeb Saleem Wani, son of Mohd Saleem Wani—both residents of Bangidar, Anantnag. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
The chargesheet was filed before the Hon’ble Court of Special Mobile Magistrate, Anantnag. Following due legal proceedings, both accused were convicted and sentenced to three months of judicial imprisonment and fined ₹3,000 each. In case of default in payment, they will face an additional 15 days of imprisonment.
To recognize this notable achievement, SSP Anantnag, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy (IPS), felicitated Head Constable Shabir Ahmad (Investigating Officer) and SHO Police Station Anantnag, Abdul Rashid Khan, for their professional and time-bound investigation that led to the historic conviction.
This milestone underscores Anantnag Police’s dedication to justice, legal readiness, and their commitment to upholding the rule of law under the new criminal framework.
