Srinagar, Apr 17 (JKNS): A private school allegedly operating without proper registration in the Nowgam area of Srinagar has come under fire from aggrieved parents, who accuse the institution of overcharging fees and ignoring directives from regulatory authorities.

Two parents, who spoke to news agency JKNS on the condition of anonymity, said the school, operating under the name Uthaymeen Islamic School, has not yet received official registration. “Despite being unregistered, the school is charging Rs 12,000 as annual charges and Rs 2,500 per month as tuition fees, without any approval from the Fee Fixation Committee,” one parent said.

Parents allege they approached the Director of School Education and the Fee Fixation Committee, but their complaints have gone unanswered. “We submitted written complaints weeks ago, but so far, no action has been taken,” another parent said, expressing frustration over the silence of the authorities.

They further claimed that the Muslim Students Board, which previously ran Albani Islamic School, has now refused to take academic admissions under the existing setup. “They are forcing us to shift our children to a newly floated school. It clearly looks like a move to make more money from poor parents,” a parent alleged.

The aggrieved families have appealed to the Directorate of School Education and other concerned authorities to immediately intervene, verify the school’s registration status, and take action against alleged fee violations.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Fee Fixation Committee Chairman Justice Hali told JKNS that the school has already applied for registration, which is currently under review. “As far as the annual fee is concerned, it is not wrong. Annual, tuition and transportation fees are permissible under law,” he said. (JKNS)
