New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted three accused individuals linked to the banned ISIS/ISJK terrorist group in connection with the 2024 Srinagar market grenade attack.

The attack, which occurred on 3rd November 2024 at the busy Sunday Market near TRC, Srinagar, resulted in the death of one woman and left several other civilians injured.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, In its chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court in Jammu, the anti-terror agency named Sheikh Usama Yaseen, Umar Fayaz Sheikh, and Afnan Mansoor Naik under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Explosive Substances Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The three accused are currently in judicial custody. Usama and Umar were arrested on 7th November, just four days after the attack, while Afnan was arrested on 8th November for his active role in the criminal conspiracy. The NIA investigation revealed that the accused were involved in a plot to wage war against India through targeted terrorist attacks on both security forces and civilians.

NIA officials also uncovered possible involvement of other terror groups in the conspiracy behind the attack.

Statement further reads, During investigations, it was found that the trio had planned, conspired, and executed the grenade attack with the intent to create panic and terror in the region. The attack was part of a broader strategy to disrupt public order and further the violent agenda of terrorist outfits operating with support from across the border, it reads.

The case (RC-01/2025/NIA/JMU) was registered by NIA on 31st January 2025, and investigations are ongoing to identify the wider network involved in the attack, reads the statement. (JKNS)
