Anantnag, May 3 (JKNS): National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said that the recent terror attack in Pahalgam failed to instil fear among tourists and locals, asserting that Kashmir will always remain an integral part of India.

Speaking to media persons as per news agency JKNS, Dr Farooq said, “The people who wanted to spread fear have lost. The tourists have defeated their agenda. Kashmir was and will always remain a part of India.”

Dr Farooq also called for a review of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), citing its adverse impact on J&K. “We’ve said it time and again—the Indus Water Treaty needs to be reviewed. Despite having our own rivers, we face a water crisis. We aren’t asking to stop water to Pakistan, but we deserve our share too,” he told reporters.

Referring to power generation issues, he added, “We have the potential to generate thousands of megawatts of electricity, yet we continue to suffer from power shortages. These issues must be corrected.”

Highlighting water shortages in Jammu, he noted, “We even tried to bring water from Chenab to Jammu, but the World Bank didn’t support us, citing the Indus Water Treaty. It’s time we take that step ourselves.”

Dr Farooq said the sacrifice of braveheart Adil Hussain will not go in vain and termed him a symbol of Kashmir’s hospitality and courage.

He made the remarks while visiting the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who was killed while saving tourists during the April 22 attack.

During the visit, Dr Farooq handed over the one-month salary of Pahalgam MLA Altaf Ahmad Kaloo to the father of the slain youth, Hyder Shah, as a mark of solidarity. The bereaved family thanked Dr Farooq for personally visiting them and showing support. (JKNS)
