Illegal extraction and transportation of minerals; Police arrests 05 persons in Awantipora

Awantipora: In continuation of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, Police in Awantipora have arrested 05 persons & seized 03 vehicles & 01 JCB used in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS resds, Acting tough against the persons involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, a Police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora DySP (P) Atif Zahoor under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora seized 03 tippers bearing registration numbers JK015-1405, JK13B-0811 & JK04-7922 and 01 JCB without registration numbers and arrested 05 persons, it reads.

They have been identified as Muzafer Ahmad Shah son of Ab Hamid Shah resident of Bahoo Awantipora, Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Sultan Dar and Ubaid Ahmad Dar son of Farooq Ahmad Dar both residents of Aghangipora, Abdul Rashid Dar son of Mohd Jabar Dar resident of Larkipora Padgampora and Mehar Ud Din Chachi son of Ghulam Noorani chachi resident of Dadoo Marhama, it reads.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR NO. 108/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated, it reads.

Police is committed to take action against violators who are taking undue advantage of night hours by extracting minerals illegally to the detriment of people health, the ecology and the revenue of the government.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood, reads the statement
