Massive Student Turnout Marks Zonal Sports Competitions Across Chenab Valley

Srinagar May 16: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K across various districts of Jammu & Kashmir has been promoting a vibrant sports culture among school students through inter-school zonal level competitions. These events, held under the guidance of Director General of YSS Rajinder Singh Tara, are witnessing an overwhelming participation from students, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for sports at the grassroots level.

In Ramban, the Inter-School Zonal Level competitions were organized across multiple sports zones, bringing together hundreds of young athletes in various disciplines. Under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jagdesh Raj Sharma, the events were conducted smoothly, with students showcasing their skills in a spirit of healthy competition.
Sports Zone Gool hosted an athletic meet and wrestling competition for Under-14 and Under-17 boys at Government Degree College, Gool Moila. Approximately 88 students from Government and private schools participated, displaying remarkable energy and sportsmanship.
Meanwhile, sports Zone Ukhral saw an impressive turnout of 484 girl participants in disciplines such as Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, and Yoga. The tournament, held at Govt. MHSS Boys Ukhral, was inaugurated by Principal Surinder Kumar Rajdan in the presence of Zonal Physical Education Officer Mohd Haroon Bhat and other field staff. The young athletes exhibited great competitive spirit, making the event a memorable one for all involved.
The combined participation from Zones Gool and Ukhral stood at 572 students, highlighting the district’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports in Doda successfully conducted Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions across all zones, promoting physical fitness and teamwork among students. District Youth Services and Sports Officer Pritem Singh spearheaded the initiative, ensuring wide participation and seamless execution.
Sports Zone Thathri took the lead by organizing events in Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Chess, Carrom, Cricket, and Volleyball for both Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls. A total of 310 student players participated, displaying exceptional talent and enthusiasm.
In Zone Gundana, Badminton, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Wrestling competitions were held at HSS Kandote, attracting 240 participants. The matches were fiercely contested, with young athletes showcasing their skills and determination.
Zone Doda focused on Athletics, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Badminton, and Yoga for Under-14 boys, while Zone Assar conducted similar events, further strengthening the district’s sports ecosystem. Additionally, Zones Bhadarwah and Bhalla organized Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton, and Cricket, ensuring inclusive participation from girls and boys across age groups.
These competitions are part of the Department’s broader mission to encourage holistic development, physical fitness, and teamwork among students. The efforts of zonal physical education officers, school staff, and sports officials were instrumental in the smooth conduct of the events.
Under the leadership of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jaffer Haider Sheikh, Kishtwar witnessed a series of high-energy inter-school competitions across multiple zones. The events not only promoted sportsmanship but also provided a platform for young athletes to excel.
Zone Kishtwar conducted Chess, Carrom, Badminton, Yoga, and Tug of War for Under-17 boys, attracting 200 participants. The competitions, held at Chowgan Ground, ITI Kishtwar, and HSS Boys Kishtwar, were marked by intense matches and enthusiastic performances.
In Zone Nagseni, Badminton (U-17 Boys & Girls) and Volleyball (All Age Groups) events were organized at BVM Nagseni and Chowgan Ground, with 145 students taking part. The matches were fiercely competitive, reflecting the growing interest in structured sporting events.
Zone Drabshalla hosted Chess, Carrom, Yoga, and Rope Skipping for Under-17 boys and girls at HSS Bhadat, with 100 participants showcasing their agility and discipline.
The Department commended the efforts of field staff, officials, and School Education authorities for their dedication in making these events a success. Such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering a strong sports culture and encouraging youth to pursue excellence in both academics and athletics.
