Srinagar:  Amid rising mercury levels, the District Administration Srinagar on Tuesday issued a detailed heatwave advisory, urging citizens to take preventive measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.

As per an issued by the District Magistrate and Chairman DDMA Srinagar, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, “Citizens are advised to stay indoors, especially between 12 noon to 3 PM. Keep hydrated by drinking sufficient water, use ORS and consume seasonal fruits like watermelon and cucumber.”

The advisory further states, “Avoid tea, coffee, carbonated and alcoholic beverages. Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting cotton clothes. If working outdoors, use protective gear like hats and umbrellas.”

Special attention has been directed towards vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with existing medical conditions. “Extra care should be taken for those at higher risk of heat stroke or dehydration,” the advisory reads.

Public gatherings and event organizers have also been urged to ensure proper ventilation and water availability. “Mass events should be planned during cooler hours with arrangements like shaded areas, adequate hydration, and crowd control,” it adds.

The advisory emphasizes coordination among departments for emergency preparedness. It reads, “All departments must remain on high alert. Emergency services must be ready to respond, and helpline numbers should be operational.”

Citizens have been asked to stay updated through IMD and official communication channels. For emergencies, the public can contact the District Emergency Operation Centre or dial ERSS 112.

“Stay safe, stay cool, and be prepared,” reads the official advisory. (JKNS)
