Kupwara: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik visited the border area of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, where recent cross-border shelling from Pakistan caused widespread damage to property and left residents fearing for their lives. With over one lakh people residing in the region and only 120 bunkers available, Malik called on the BJP-led central government and National Conference to immediately address the dire situation.
During his visit, Malik stressed the urgent need for individual bunkers for every household in the area, highlighting the vulnerability of locals exposed to frequent shelling. He visited several affected villages including Gomal, Shamaspora, Baghbela, Bhatpora, Hajinar, Truboni, and Teetwal, witnessing the destruction firsthand.
Speaking to the media, Malik said, “The government must provide compensation to the affected families and allocate land in Kupwara town for the people of Karnah, who are constantly living under threat. I will raise your voices in the Assembly, Insha’Allah.”
While expressing solidarity with Palestine, he added, “Pakistan talks of helping Palestine, but we are Indians. We will live and die for our nation.”
Malik concluded by pledging to continue his fight for the rights and safety of the border population.
