Srinagar: President of the Private Schools’ Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK), G.N. Var, on Thursday urged the J&K Government to announce a four-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha from June 6th (Day of Arafah) to June 9th (Third Day of Eid) to ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth festival observance.

In a video statement, as per news agency JKNS Var said, “On the Day of Arafah, June 6, traffic movement becomes extremely difficult. Parents and school transporters struggle to drop and pick up children. Under these circumstances, it becomes impractical to run schools.”

He added that attendance remains significantly low during Arafah and the third day of Eid, often forcing teachers to repeat lessons. “We respectfully request the J&K Government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo Ji, to declare June 6 to 9 as official holidays. This clarity will help parents, teachers, and students plan accordingly and celebrate peacefully,” Var said.

Highlighting that Eid-ul-Adha rituals span three days and many families perform Qurbani until the third day, Var stressed that a four-day break would be both practical and culturally respectful. (JKNS)
