Baramulla, July 9 (JKNS): The body of a girl who jumped into the Jhelum reservoir in Peerniya, Boniyar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday afternoon was recovered on Wednesday, officials said.
Reports reaching news agency JKNS said the incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Tuesday, when the girl, accompanied by a boy, was spotted near the reservoir site of the Lower Jhelum Hydro Power Project in Peerniya.
Eyewitnesses said the girl suddenly jumped into the river and drowned, while the boy fled the spot immediately.
After a massive overnight search operation, her body was recovered on Wednesday afternoon.
The rescue efforts were jointly conducted by police teams led by SDPO and SHO Boniyar, assisted by SDRF personnel.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is underway. (JKNS)
