Jammu, July 16 (JKNS): In a proud moment for the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat (IPS) on Wednesday awarded Police Station Akhnoor with a Certificate of Excellence after it was declared the Best Police Station of J&K for 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, DGP Nalin Prabhat as per news agency JKNS said, “Police Station Akhnoor has set a new benchmark of excellence. I congratulate the entire Jammu Police team for this prestigious achievement and urge all ranks to uphold the same commitment and innovation in public service.”
As per news agency JKNS, the DGP was joined by senior officials including IGP Jammu Zone B.S. Tuti (IPS), IGP CRPF Jammu Gopala K. Rao (IPS), DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma (IPS), DC Jammu Sachin Vaishya (IAS), and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS). The Hon’ble MLA Akhnoor, Lal Bhagat, also attended the occasion as a special guest.
The recognition is part of an MHA initiative launched in 2015 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to promote professionalism and citizen-friendly policing across India. For 2024, 17,932 police stations were evaluated, and 76 were shortlisted under strict criteria framed by the Police Modernisation Division with research support from TransRural. Among these, Police Station Akhnoor earned its place in the top ranks nationally.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the exceptional performance and leadership of then SHO Tariq Ahmed, SDPO Mohan Sharma, SP Rural Brijesh Sharma (JKPS), and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS),” the DGP added, while extending his best wishes to the current SHO Sanjeev Chib and SDPO Varinder Gupta for continuing the legacy.
IGP Jammu B.S. Tuti also praised the Akhnoor police team, stating, “This honour reflects professionalism, community trust, and disciplined service. The team must continue to uphold these values every day.”
The event saw the presence of senior officers from the Army, BSF, CRPF, intelligence agencies, civil administration, Zonal SPs of Jammu, SDPOs, and SHOs of the Rural Zone. The honour bestowed on Akhnoor Police Station is seen as a milestone in policing excellence in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
