Srinagar, July 17: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K, orchestrated a series of vibrant sporting events across the Union Territory (UT)on Thursday, fostering athletic excellence and camaraderie among young participants. From inter-district championships to zonal-level tournaments, the day witnessed spirited competitions, highlighting the department’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting a culture of fitness and discipline.
The Inter-District Provincial Level Baseball Championship (Under-14 Girls) culminated at the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE), Gadoora, Ganderbal, after two days of exhilarating matches. Organized by the YSS Department and hosted by the District Youth Services and Sports Office (DYSSO) Ganderbal, the tournament saw participation from seven districts of Kashmir Province.
The final match was a thrilling encounter between District Ganderbal and District Pulwama, with Ganderbal emerging victorious through exceptional teamwork and skill. Meanwhile, District Kulgam secured a commendable win against District Kupwara in the hardliner match.
The event recognized the collective efforts of officials, technical staff, and support teams in ensuring the tournament’s success. Trophies were awarded to the winning teams, marking a celebratory end to the championship. The next phase, the U17 Girls Baseball Championship, is set to commence tomorrow at the same venue.
Meanwhile the District Youth Services and Sports Office (DYSSO) Anantnag continued its dynamic sports calendar with several tournaments across different zones. The Subroto Mukherjee Football Cup (U15 Boys) concluded with Wizkids School Batengoo clinching the title after a gripping final against Radiant Public School Batengoo. The event, inaugurated by a senior education officer, featured 64 young footballers from various schools.
Simultaneously, the District-Level Inter-School Kabaddi Tournament (U19 Boys) kicked off with 432 participants from 36 Higher Secondary Schools. Matches were held at BMHSS Bijbehara and HSS Brakpora, with several schools advancing to the next round.
Zone Anantnag organized an Inter-School Zonal Volleyball Tournament for U14 and U17 Girls, witnessing enthusiastic participation from 191 students. Meanwhile, Zone Achabal hosted a Martial Arts Competition (Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, and Wushu) for U14 and U17 Boys, with 107 students showcasing their skills.

In south Kashmir’s Shopian, a Table Tennis Competition for U14 and U17 Boys was held at Gung Baksh Hanfiya High School Arhama, organized by DYSSO Shopian. The event was inaugurated by the In-charge Activity Officer, fostering competitive spirit among participants.
Budgam launched the Inter-District Provincial Level Volleyball Tournament (U14 Boys) at Sports Stadium Chrar-e-Sharief, featuring 110 athletes from ten districts. The District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam inaugurated the event, emphasizing the department’s focus on grassroots talent development.
Kishtwar buzzed with energy as Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions unfolded across multiple zones. Cricket, Volleyball, Kabaddi, and Kho-Kho matches for U19 Boys and Girls were conducted under the supervision of Zonal Physical Education Officers, reflecting robust community engagement.

In Doda, the 6th day of the Inter-Zonal District Level Tournament featured high-intensity Kho-Kho and Volleyball matches. Zone Gundna triumphed in U14 Girls Kho-Kho, while Zone Bhallessa secured victory in U14 Boys Volleyball, demonstrating skill and teamwork.
