Budgam, Aug 1 (JKNS): A serious drinking water crisis has gripped the Beerwah subdivision of Budgam district, with residents from several villages accusing authorities of failing to deliver on the promises made under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Locals from Charkhan, Waterpora, Arwah, Mirepora, Machhama, Dargar, Narwarh, and Adina told news agency JKNS that they are forced to consume contaminated water, posing serious health risks. “The government had promised tap water in every household, but we have neither taps nor water,” said a resident of Waterpora.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating situation, the residents appealed to the administration for urgent intervention to ensure access to safe drinking water and prevent the crisis from escalating into a public health emergency.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Beerwah acknowledged the issue while speaking to JKNS. “There is indeed a shortage of drinking water in some areas. However, due to the ongoing strike by contractors over the past several months, project work has been delayed, forcing people to face difficulties. We are making efforts, and in the coming days, clean drinking water will be provided to all affected areas,” he said. (JKNS)
