Srinagar, Aug 14 (JKNS): Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Thursday warned that anyone found involved in selling rotten meat in Jammu and Kashmir will face the strictest possible action.

Speaking to reporters here, Dulloo said that action has already been initiated against those involved in the sale of rotten meat. “The Chief Minister recently chaired a meeting and directed enforcement agencies to take strict action. Other concerned agencies have also been asked to ensure violators are punished,” he said.

The Chief Secretary also informed that all arrangements for Independence Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir have been finalised, with rehearsals conducted in every district. “The main functions will be held in every district tomorrow,” he added.

Referring to the Partition of India, Dulloo said, “14 August 1947 ko Bharat ka partition hua aur Bharat ko azaadi mili. Iske peechhe hamare logon ko bohot badi keemat chukani padi. Khet udhar hain, log idhar hain; ek bhai idhar hai, doosra udhar. Bahut saare logon ne qurbani di. ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ isi liye manaya jaata hai, taaki is din ko hum agli nasal tak pahunchayen.”

Earlier in the day, the Chief Secretary graced the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day – 2025 event organised by the Department of Culture at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, as the Chief Guest. The event, also attended by Financial Commissioner (ACS) Higher Education J&K, Shri Shantmanu, IAS, as Guest of Honour, featured an exhibition of historical images depicting the suffering, trauma, and displacement experienced by millions during the 1947 Partition.

The commemoration aimed to honour the sacrifices of those who endured the horrors of Partition and to pass on their stories to future generations. (JKNS)
