Kathua, Aug 17 (JKNS): Four persons were killed and several others injured after a cloudburst struck the Ghati area of Kathua district on Sunday morning, causing widespread damage.
An official told news agency JKNS that four persons died and several others sustained injuries, while rescue operations were underway. The incident also damaged several houses, the local police station, a railway track, and stretches of the National Highway in Janglot and adjoining areas.
Rescue teams have been pressed into service to clear debris and provide immediate relief to the affected families, officials added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister has expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives and multiple injuries in Kathua district, assuring all possible assistance to the victims.
In a post on X, the Office of J&K CM, as per JKNS, wrote that the Chief Minister expressed sorrow over the tragedy in Jodh Khad and Juthana, which claimed four lives and left many others injured. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, and directed the administration to carry out urgent relief, rescue, and evacuation measures.
Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh also took to X, stating, “Spoken to SSP Kathua Sh. Shobhit Saxena after receiving information about a cloud burst in the Janglote area. Four casualties reported. In addition, damage has occurred to railway track, National Highway, while Police Station Kathua has been affected.”
He added that the civilian administration, military, and paramilitary forces have swung into action and the situation is being continuously monitored. “My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased,” Dr. Singh wrote. (JKNS)
