New Delhi, Aug 17 (JKNS): The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday named Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
As per news agency JKNS the announcement came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Board held a meeting at the party headquarters in New Delhi earlier in the day.
The Vice Presidential post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar (74) resigned on July 21 citing health reasons. In his resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice-President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has issued the schedule for the Vice Presidential election. If contested, voting will take place on September 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first floor of the Parliament House. (JKNS)
