Srinagar, Aug 17 (JKNS): Devotees attending the ongoing Urs of Hazrat Makhdoom Sahab (RA) in Srinagar have expressed grave concern over the sale of stale snacks, urging the Food Safety Department to conduct daily inspections throughout the Urs period.
A video, as per news agency JKNS, showing old snacks infested with insects went viral on social media, sparking outrage among the public. Locals accused the authorities of negligence and demanded strict action.
Bashir Ahmad, a devotee, told JKNS, “We saw vendors selling Nader Munji that was clearly stale. This is dangerous for devotees who come in large numbers. Authorities must take strict action.”
Aamina, another visitor, said, “The Food Safety Department comes for checking only for two days and then disappears. This is unfair. They must deploy separate squads during Urs and other festivals to ensure safety.”
Hilal Ahmad, reacting sharply, remarked, “Where is the Food Safety Department? It is their duty to check every single day during Urs. Ignoring this issue is putting public health at risk.”
Devotees appealed that similar vigilance as recently done against rotten meat should also be extended to every food item, especially during festivals and Urs at other shrines. (JKNS)
