Ganderbal, Aug 18 (JKNS): At least six students and a teacher suffered minor injuries after a school bus collided with a gas cylinder-laden truck in Haripora area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday.
Officials told news agency JKNS that the bus, carrying students of DPS Budgam on a picnic to Sonamarg, was hit head-on by an HP gas truck. Witnesses said the truck had developed a brake failure and went out of control before striking the school bus.
The driver of the SRTC bus told JKNS that he had stopped the vehicle after spotting the speeding truck, but the heavy vehicle rammed into it regardless. Following the collision, the truck driver fled the scene, while both vehicles suffered severe damage.
Police teams reached the spot immediately and shifted the injured to hospital. “Six students and one teacher sustained minor injuries in the accident. All of them are stable,” an official confirmed.
A case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the absconding truck driver, the official added. (JKNS)
