Kathua, Aug 25 (JKNS): The District Administration Kathua on Monday issued a flash flood advisory in view of the recent heavy rainfall and communication received from the Executive Engineer RSD HQ-cum-Emergency Planning Manager, Chief Engineer Dams, warning of possible regulated discharge of water from the dam at any time, which could lead to a sudden rise in water levels in downstream areas of River Ravi and its tributaries.
According to the advisory, as per news agency JKNS, residents living in low-lying areas along the River Ravi, Ujh Nallah, and adjoining tributaries have been asked to remain alert and avoid venturing close to riverbanks. People have also been advised to refrain from bathing, fishing, or carrying out any activity in or around rivers and nallahs during this period.
Farmers have been instructed not to keep their livestock near water bodies and to shift them to safer areas immediately. In case of emergencies, the public has been directed to contact the District Control Room at Kathua, which remains functional round the clock.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars, and field functionaries of all concerned departments have been directed to keep men and machinery ready to deal with any eventuality.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma (JKAS), while issuing the advisory, urged the general public to “stay vigilant, avoid panic, and strictly follow the safety instructions issued from time to time.”
The advisory has been described as a precautionary measure to safeguard lives and property in vulnerable areas. (JKNS)
