Baramulla, Aug 25 (JKNS): A 33-year-old youth from Saloosa Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has set an example of self-reliance by successfully establishing a trout fish farm under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) scheme.
Details available with news agency JKNS, Owkat Ahmad Ganie, son of Ali Mohammad Ganie, the postgraduate (M.A, B.Ed) youth started his fish farming venture in 2023-24.
With eight family members dependent on him, Ganie said he is now satisfied with the income and stability the initiative has brought to his household.
Speaking to JKNS, Ganie said, “I was motivated by the Fisheries Department, and today I feel proud that my trout farm is running successfully. It has not only given me financial support but also inspired others in my locality to think beyond traditional employment.”
The HADP scheme is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in agriculture and allied sectors, adding that many youth across north Kashmir are showing interest in fisheries after witnessing such success stories. (JKNS)
