Srinagar, Aug 30 (JKNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday presented a traditional Kashmiri Pashmina shawl, encased in a hand-painted paper-mache box, as a gift to the spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan.
As per news agency JKNS, the ivory-based Pashmina shawl, woven from the fine wool of the Changthangi goat of Ladakh, is globally valued for its lightness, warmth, and softness.
The piece features intricate floral and paisley patterns in rust, pink, and red a hallmark of Kashmiri craftsmanship once cherished by royalty.
The shawl was presented in a paper-mache box, hand-painted with floral and bird motifs, symbolising the cultural richness and artistic legacy of Jammu and Kashmir.
The gift reflects India’s tradition of blending elegance with heritage, while showcasing the artistry of Kashmiri artisans. (JKNS)
