Srinagar, Sep 7 (JKNS): Authorities on Sunday seized nearly 340 kilograms of unlabelled meat at Srinagar Airport in a joint operation by the Food Safety Department and the Sales Tax Department.
An official told news agency JKNS that the consignment, ordered by a Srinagar-based dealer through air cargo, was found without any declaration. “During routine inspection at the cargo section, the consignment of 340 kg unlabelled meat was detected and immediately seized,” the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.
The officer confirmed that the operation is still in process and more details will be shared after completion of formalities.
Meanwhile, officials recalled that in August, the Food Safety Department conducted extensive raids across Srinagar and other districts, destroying nearly 12,000 kilograms of misbranded and substandard food items.
Large quantities of unhygienic meat and bakery products were also seized in those drives, with notices issued to several dealers found violating safety norms. Authorities said such actions will continue as part of the broader campaign to ensure hygienic and safe food supply in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
