Srinagar, Sep 13 (JKNS): Additional Director General of Police (Armed) Anand Jain on Saturday said that the annual Jashn-e-Dal festival is more than a water sports competition, describing it as a platform that connects people, inspires youth, and strengthens police-public relations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 26th edition of Jashn-e-Dal, ADGP Jain as per news agency JKNS, said, “The event was launched in 1999 and has grown into a celebrated yearly feature. This year, dragon boats have been introduced as a new attraction.”
‘Over 700 participants are competing across 20 different disciplines, including those featured at the Olympics, Asian Games, and national level,” Jain said.
He said the enthusiasm of young athletes, some as young as 8 and 9 years old, is hope that they would go on to achieve recognition at national and international levels. He further said such sporting festivals play a significant role in boosting tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jain announced that the first week of October will witness the All India Cluster Judo Championship in Srinagar, with around 3,000 athletes from across the country expected to participate.
“Sports events like Jashn-e-Dal not only showcase talent but also create a neutral space where communities connect. This strengthens the bond of trust between police and the public,” he added. (JKNS)
