Srinagar, Sep 13 (JKNS): Director (Animal Husbandry Statistics), Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, Shri V.P. Singh, visited Ganderbal district on 12th September to review field operations under the Integrated Sample Survey (ISS) 2025-26.

The ISS, conducted annually in all States and UTs across three seasons, Summer, Rainy, and Winter, estimates production of major livestock products in collaboration with State/UT Animal Husbandry departments. Currently, the Rainy Season survey is underway while the Summer round has been completed.

During his visit to Kangan Block, Shri Singh inspected survey operations carried out by the enumerator, supervisor, and district nodal officer, and reviewed real-time data collection through the eLISS software. He appreciated the field staff’s efforts, emphasized timely completion, and assured support in addressing operational challenges.

Interacting with villagers, Shri Singh highlighted the importance of accurate data collection for estimating milk, meat, egg, and wool production, which forms the basis for policy-making at Central and State levels.

The livestock sector contributes over 30% of the Gross Value Added of Agriculture and Allied Activities in India. In 2024, the country achieved record outputs – 239.30 million tonnes of milk (highest globally), 142.77 billion eggs (2nd globally), and 10.25 million tonnes of meat (4th globally).
