Srinagar, Sep 24 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that while Ladakh accepted its Union Territory status in 2019 without any promise of statehood, the people of Jammu and Kashmir feel betrayed and disappointed as the long-pending promise of restoring statehood remains unfulfilled despite their peaceful and responsible demand.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, as per news agency JKNS, said that Ladakh had not been promised statehood and celebrated its Union Territory status in 2019, expressing feelings of betrayal and anger.

He added, “Now try to imagine how betrayed and disappointed we in J&K feel when the promise of statehood to J&K remains unfulfilled even though we have gone about demanding it democratically, peacefully and responsibly.”

Earlier, District Magistrate, Leh, Romil Singh Donk, issued an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, imposing restrictions across the district to prevent any disturbance to public peace and safety. (JKNS)
