Mumbai, Oct 9 (JKNS): As part of the ongoing press tour to Mumbai organised by Press Information Bureau J&K, the delegation of media persons of Jammu & Kashmir today visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

The visits aimed to acquaint the media persons with India’s scientific progress and research-driven innovations in technology and energy.

The delegation, led by Ms. Neha Jalali, Director, PIB Jammu, was accompanied by Ms. Faguni Banerjee, PRO, IIT Bombay. At IIT Bombay, the delegates visited the Nanotechnology Lab and were briefed about the National Semiconductor Mission, which seeks to develop a robust semiconductor and display ecosystem to position India as a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.

Officials also informed the delegation about the Semix Project, which promotes collaboration between academia and industry to support startups with funding, infrastructure, and mentoring.

The delegation interacted with Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Deputy Director (Finance, Infrastructure & Administration), who discussed innovations in healthcare, artificial intelligence, and media technology. They also met research students from J&K working on low-cost medical kits for blood analysis that could aid in tackling sickle cell anaemia.

At the Aspire IITB Research Park Foundation, the delegates were briefed on how the park connects industry and academia through collaborative R&D, incubation facilities, and co-creation initiatives that strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem.

Later in the day, the delegation visited the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), where Shri Rajeev Das, Nuclear Control Projects Wing, and Shri Daniel Babu, Head, Public Awareness and Media Interaction, made detailed presentations on the power and non-power applications of nuclear energy. The officials highlighted DAE’s pioneering work in healthcare, food security, water management, and energy security, and urged the media to help build awareness about the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Shri Babu also informed that 11 AKRUTI (Advanced Knowledge and Rural Technology Implementation) Centres have been established across India to facilitate technology transfer for rural development.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Neha Jalali, Director, PIB Jammu, said, “Visits to premier institutions such as IIT Bombay and DAE are helping journalists from Jammu and Kashmir gain valuable insights into India’s progress in science, research, and technology. Such exposure enriches their understanding and strengthens their professional perspective on national development.”

The ongoing five-day PIB J&K Media Tour to Mumbai aims to provide journalists from Jammu and Kashmir with first-hand exposure to India’s leading institutions, highlighting the country’s advancements in infrastructure, science, technology, and governance. (JKNS)
