Anantnag, Oct 13 (JKNS): The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Anantnag has issued a stern warning to all courier service providers operating within the district after authorities received reports that certain elements were misusing courier networks for the illegal transportation of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
According to the order as per news agency JKNS, the administration has taken serious note of the misuse of courier services for trafficking NRX and other controlled drugs, terming it a grave threat to public health and law and order.
The order directs that any courier parcel or consignment containing drugs or pharmaceutical preparations must be cleared for delivery only after scrutiny and verification by an Inspector from the office of the Assistant Drug Controller. Furthermore, the Police Department has been instructed to conduct regular inspections of courier agencies to ensure strict compliance and detect any misuse of courier networks.
The ADM cautioned that any courier operator found involved directly or indirectly in drug trafficking will face strict action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and, in severe cases, provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in NDPS Act (PITNDPS) may also be invoked.
