Budgam, Oct 16 (JKNS): The Department of Handicrafts, Budgam, on Thursday organized an awareness-cum-registration camp at Poshkar Khag with the objective of educating local artisans and craftsmen about various government-sponsored schemes, financial assistance programs, and modern training initiatives aimed at promoting traditional crafts and improving livelihoods.
As per news agency JKNS, A large number of artisans and weavers from Poshkar and adjoining areas participated in the program. Officials from the Handicrafts Department briefed them about the process of registration and the multiple benefits associated with being a registered artisan, including access to credit facilities, marketing support, and participation in national-level exhibitions.
Assistant Director Handicrafts Budgam, Muhammad Younis Mir, encouraged the artisans to take maximum benefit from the welfare schemes and initiatives launched by the department. He said that the government is committed to empowering the artisan community by providing them with modern tools, skill development programs, and design upgradation opportunities.
Mir also highlighted the availability of educational scholarships for the children of registered artisans and insurance cover under various government schemes. He further emphasized that such awareness camps play a crucial role in connecting the artisan community with departmental services and ensuring their socio-economic upliftment.
The Assistant Director appreciated the enthusiasm of local artisans and assured them of continuous departmental support in marketing their products and sustaining the legacy of Budgam’s rich handicraft traditions.
The event concluded with an interactive session where artisans raised queries regarding registration, documentation, and scheme eligibility, which were addressed by departmental officials. (JKNS)
